PAVITT COTTAGE TRUST

Financial statements and audit report for the year

Ended 2012

Working Bee March 2011
Water problems
March 2011 saw an emergency family working bee to repair the cottage water supply. The source, a spring several kilometres up the valley, had failed - leaving the cottage without any water. This may have been caused in part by the February 22nd earthquake but more likely by old age! The (antique) collector tank had ruptured plus the surrounding area had become very overgrown. With the help of two Robinsons Bay neighbours ( Ged Foley & Eric Ryder) a new tank was installed & the settling tanks down the valley checked. The tank just up the road from the cottage (on Eric's land) was repaired. The water supply now works a treat. Fingers crossed it stays that way!

Removing old collector tank at spring: left to right, Ben Tichborne (almost hidden by bush), Ged Foley, Bryan Tichborne, Eric Ryder, Brent George and Lewis George). A very mucky & tricky job!

'Plumbers' Mike Browne & Lewis George installed a new ball cock and replumbed outlet from Pavitt tank.

Not shown in these photos is the 'support group' comprising of Mary Browne, Helen Leach, Jacqui & Ellen George and Nancy Tichborne. They worked hard too! Trimming shrubbery, clearing track to the creek, cleaning out the gravel from the base of wash-house, cleaning silver cutlery, boiling water for dishes & feeding the cold, muddy & hungry workers.

Some of you might recall this venerable fence post being featured on the front page of the 2010 Pavitt Cottage Press... It is thought to be one of the original corner posts of the Pavitt's 100 acre block (Rural Section 579). It looks like a totara trunk - used without any splitting or shaping. Our neighbour Eric Ryder has been busy doing improvements to his farm - including a new fence along Sawmill Road. He kindly let us have the old post - a true Pavitt taonga! This was re-erected in front of the cottage by Peter Haylock & Bryan Tichborne - for all to admire.
